Many people who are struggling with anxiety issues usually tend to alleviate their predicaments with a bit of CBD oil. However, traveling with CBD oil can be a dangerous endeavor, especially if you’re traveling internationally, and visiting a country that has strict drug laws. In fact, some countries like Singapore enforce the death penalty even for ridiculously small amounts of drugs.
Can I Take CBD Oil on a Plane?
In 2018, the United States passed the Farm Bill which allows people to fly with CBD oil, but only if it is derived from hemp, as we’ve mentioned. Therefore, it is still illegal to possess and travel with products derived from marijuana.
On top of that, the THC content of your oil must be under 0.3% or else it’s illegal.
The best course of action for people who are planning to travel with CBD oil is to first check the TSA rules on their website. The downside of this is that TSA is notorious for not updating their website, so you might stumble upon obsolete rules that aren’t currently in power.
The current TSA rules state that you can’t travel with a container that has more than 3.4 ounces of liquid. It goes without saying that you should stay within the rules or else your oil will be confiscated and you’ll lose it all.
International flights are a whole another category, and security is much tighter. Before you ask the question, “Is it legal to fly with CBD oil” you should probably check out the laws of the country you’re flying to.
Some countries have completely legalized both hemp and marijuana derivative(s) whereas some other, more conservative ones, enforce extreme punishments, in some cases, even death. Therefore, it’s very important that you conduct some research before flying internationally or else you might find yourself in a bit of a pickle.
Do NOT Try to Hide It
One of the worst things you can do is hide your oil, hoping it won’t be found. While there are some chances of going through unnoticed, it’s definitely not worth the risk. If TSA finds it, chances are they will suspect you’re doing something illegal, and you will be subjected to additional screening.
The best course of action for you is to disclose the amount of oil you have, and TSA agents will give you a more detailed insight into the rules.
TSA is rarely (if ever) looking for CBD oil, in particular, their primary job is to search and watch out for explosives, weapons, and heavier drugs like cocaine or heroin.
Flying with CBD oil is definitely a possibility, but it should not be taken lightly, even on domestic flights. We strongly recommend you to conduct research and cover every aspect of the current laws in order to be as safe as possible. As mentioned, international flights are to be taken much more seriously, especially if you’re traveling to conservative countries. You should, in most cases, avoid bringing CBD oil on international flights as it is much better to be safe than sorry.
